ASSIGNMENT: FREE TOPIC (SAT ESSAY QUESTION)
Is it important to question the ideas and decisions of people in positions in authority?
Challenging authority leads an organization to success. By questioning to the old ideas that has long been accepted, novel thinkers develop groundbreaking proposals. Furthermore, these creative proposals against firmly established notion have inspired new spiritual world and even unknown geographical one.
Questioning old concept of salvation, Shiddhartha turned his back against Buddha, venerated by many learners, in order to recognize the true salvation by himself. In Shiddhartha, by Hermann Hesse, many learners including Shiddhartha’s friend Govinda went on a pilgrimage only to listen to even a word from Buddha. Yet, Shiddhartha reached the state of salvation faster than Govinda who only followed Buddha and his words. Since Shiddhartha disputed with firmly held credo, he obtained a chance to discover his own way toward redemption. Through the story of Shiddhartha, it was his defiant attitude that eventually corrected the wrong actions or beliefs held at that time.
Not only the spiritual world but also the geographical world has been discovered by Eratosthenes in B.C.200. Even tough he was regarded as a mere crazy heretical, he finally demonstrated the circular shape of the earth by measuring the girth of it. People would still believe the appearance of the earth as a huge cube unless Eratosthenes challenged and corrected the old and ridiculous belief. Likewise, suspicion about strongly held perception finally induced favorable result.
Putting a question to the strongly and traditionally supported notion led Shiddhartha to salvation and human beings to broader world. Similarly, it is significant to dispute widely convinced stance since that attitude finally brings on success as shown in the cause of Shiddhartha and Eratosthenes.
