Is growth necessary to a happy and productive life?

Technological and economical advancement creates a satisfying life. Thanks to the growth, people no more suffer from starving or incurable disease compared to the past days in 1970s, before industrial revolution. On the other hand, lack of progress has caused various problems from small inconvenience in the daily lives and suicidal act even the economical crisis over many nations.
Describing terrible tragedy of ruined economy, The Death of a Salesman represents the importance of wealth. At the end of the story, Willy Loman who incessantly pursed prosperity finally commits suicide. It makes people consider the influence of economical power on a common salesman as well as disastrousness of human illusion. He would not have attempted suicide if he had achieved his goal; opulence. Likewise, improvement in finance may even save a life of human being.
Different from this big disastrous effect concerning a pious human life, demerit of unexploited district is also applied to small inconvenience in daily lives. Staying in Texas in 2000, I did not have cell phone which had not even existed in the past. Without the technologically invented communication device, I could not keep in touch with my friends at my will. Furthermore, dearth of communication with people which seems tranquil life style, made me inert and lethargic. Similarly, cell phones are so common nowadays that people cannot even perceive the usefulness of them. However, cell phones satisfy people with their communication system and finally make them happy.
Great Depression in 1929 shows the strong-impressive influence that the economical advancement had on our satisfying lives. Producing over 15 million unemployed, slump of 1929 bred the insolvency from U.S. to France. By 1920, U.S. has accumulated a lot of capital; World War I offered a great market for U.S. to trade a large amount of military weapons. In spite of this huge earning, not only the economy of U.S. but also that of other nations gradually declined. Unimaginable number of people suffered from poverty problem that can only be solved by the prosperity. Shown in the Great Depression, it was financial or economical problem that had led the whole nation or even the world into the chaos. In my point of view, financial growth is essential to live a productive life since there cannot exist a happy life without any money to buy one’s meal to maintain his or her vitality.
No one gets happy without any food needed to survive or any ability to grow any crop. Likewise, economical or technological grown is a profound and fundamental factor that leads to a satisfying and happy life.

ASSIGNMENT: FREE TOPIC (SAT ESSAY QUESTION)

Is it important to question the ideas and decisions of people in positions in authority?

Challenging authority leads an organization to success. By questioning to the old ideas that has long been accepted, novel thinkers develop groundbreaking proposals. Furthermore, these creative proposals against firmly established notion have inspired new spiritual world and even unknown geographical one.
Questioning old concept of salvation, Shiddhartha turned his back against Buddha, venerated by many learners, in order to recognize the true salvation by himself. In Shiddhartha, by Hermann Hesse, many learners including Shiddhartha’s friend Govinda went on a pilgrimage only to listen to even a word from Buddha. Yet, Shiddhartha reached the state of salvation faster than Govinda who only followed Buddha and his words. Since Shiddhartha disputed with firmly held credo, he obtained a chance to discover his own way toward redemption. Through the story of Shiddhartha, it was his defiant attitude that eventually corrected the wrong actions or beliefs held at that time.
Not only the spiritual world but also the geographical world has been discovered by Eratosthenes in B.C.200. Even tough he was regarded as a mere crazy heretical, he finally demonstrated the circular shape of the earth by measuring the girth of it. People would still believe the appearance of the earth as a huge cube unless Eratosthenes challenged and corrected the old and ridiculous belief. Likewise, suspicion about strongly held perception finally induced favorable result.
Putting a question to the strongly and traditionally supported notion led Shiddhartha to salvation and human beings to broader world. Similarly, it is significant to dispute widely convinced stance since that attitude finally brings on success as shown in the cause of Shiddhartha and Eratosthenes.

ASSIGNMENT: READING ARTICLE.

U.S BASE, THE MAKESHIFT IS FINALLY REVEALED.

On June 14th, the makeshift conspired by U.S. was finally discovered. When six lawmakers visited the site and dug the ground, gasoline instead of water turned up. According to the environmental experts who took the samples from the site estimated that the total cleanup bill for the bases could be as high as $430 million. Furthermore, the agreement-cleaning up the base before returning to its original owner- signed by U.S. makes this event more surprising. Yet, the Korean government doesn’t require any cost of cleaning up to U.S but just is planning the future plan in the site full with pollutants now. In addition, the negotiation which says that Korea will pay the half of the cost needed to move the U.S. base to Pyeongtaek.
In my pint of view, this one-way-supplying policy should be halted. Since Korea was enlightened, it has been under the pressure of U.S. in most areas such as government policy, military, international relations, administration of justice, etc. Also, in this case, it is even ridiculous to pay all the cleaning and half of the moving cost. Despite EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) in America strongly strict about its condition of surroundings, they take no care about the outside land. This self-centered mind resulted in incurable damage to other nations. In the aspect of diplomacy, the treaty about environment, especially hiring out the land from outside its nation should be reinforced. In my opinion, this disastrous damage to ground should not go easily.
First of all, rehabilitation of site should be carried out as well as indemnity of consequences occurred because of contamination. As a temporary owner of the land, U.S. troops do not have any right to harm the nature. Also, what they sow needs to be reaped by them. Furthermore, the public apologize should be carried out. Because of the contamination, he habitants, animals and plants must have been destructed. It may seem a small adulteration in a limited area, yet the spreading consequences cannot be compensated merely by the financial payment. Objectively speaking, U.S. must take their responsibility in the use of Korea’s resource and sincerely apologize publicly.

ASSIGNMENT: EVALUATION OF A SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCE.

No one-way service exists, I believe. In this world, we live by relying on and helping each other. This simple instruction stimulated me to project an English musical which was the toughest event that I experienced ever. Yet, this unforgettable experience hardened my belief; there is no permanent teacher or student. We teach and learn mutually. This is why I rejected the mere educational service, and chose to do something beneficial to both of us and North Korean kids.
Most of all difficulties, cultural and lingual difference frustrated me. A girl, named Hye-yeon Kim and plays snow white in the play, avoided expressing herself or thought as well as speaking out loud. Since the loud voice is crucial in the play, we need to overcome the cultural difference and the gap in language as well. As a solution, the first step I took for communicating with her was to search and learn North Korean culture and language which transforms all the word of foreign origin into pure Korean one. Likewise, for one month I did my best as a direction: getting sponsor, renting a playhouse for free, renting customs, printing tickets, etc. As we tried to understand them, kids also showed a little interest toward us. When one of the kids gave some light meal to me with his hand, indescribable joy overwhelmed me. Like this, we gradually got understanding each other and train rigorously for one month.
Projecting this event made taught me two more instructions. First is the cooperation. While our team trained periodically, I felt sometimes to give up everything. Since I insisted only on my opinion, all team members underwent hard time. However, the nature of the genre play which requires great cooperation let us recognize how the collaboration is important especially in the group working. Secondly, North Korean kids also gave lesson about potential energy. When I first projected this plan, no one, even I myself saw much chance. However, they encouraged me that we can do it and finally they showed their full potentiality on the stage. The play was performed on 14th April, my birthday. I got the best birthday present ever in my life. Furthermore, it is quite cool that I proved that education is really mutual throughout the great musical.
